Hello, my name is Jacob Abou-Akrouche! Lebanon is my home country, I also take trips to Lebanon every summer to keep in touch with the culture and language. I am currently studying at the University of Ottawa studying commerce with an option in management, and I am in my second year. I used to be a volunteer at the club "International House" where we would promo te all of the things of this wiki; such as international clothing, dance, food, music, and tourism. This sparked my ambition for international cultures!! I am currently looking to study abroad in Hong Kong in my 4th year. In my wiki you can find information about traditional foods, music, dance, clothing, and tourist attractions of Lebanon. This wiki allows us to be creative with the material we learn, also it allows us to express our interests in a collaborative way.

Lebanon was first civilized more than 7,000 years—predating recorded history. Lebanon was the home of the Phoenicians, an ancient civilization that was specialized in trade. Following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire after World War 1, the five provinces that comprise modern Lebanon were mandated to France. The French expanded the borders of Mount Lebanon, which was mostly populated by Maronite Catholics and Druze, to include more Muslim elements. Lebanon gained independence in 1943, and established a unique political system, known as confessionalism, a power-sharing mechanism based on religious communities. French troops withdrew in 1946 leaving Lebanon to be an independent country.
